SuperConcepts backs calls for further lodgement extensions

SuperConcepts has thrown its weight behind calls from Tax & Super Australia (TSA) to extend the lodgement dates for personal and company tax for 2018–19 amid concerns of agents falling behind.

The comments come as a TSA survey of 530 accounting professionals has found that a blowout in increased workloads from the government’s stimulus measures has resulted in 72 per cent of respondents reporting that they were behind on lodgements compared to last year.

SuperConcepts applauded the ATO’s extension to lodgements for superannuation and pension tax to 30 June 2020.

Chief executive Lara Bourguignon said the administrator’s quick response to COVID-19 means it finds itself in a very good position to meet the deadline.

“We acted quickly and decidedly to respond to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and are in a very good position to make the 30 June deadline for lodgement on all the SMSF accounts we administer,” Ms Bourguignon said.

“While this is a great accomplishment for our clients and team, we would want the same extension to apply to tax lodgements across the industry, as personal and company tax lodgements have been similarly impacted by COVID-19.”

    I agree with S Lane.
Why are deadline extensions so important to a company as large and resourced as Super Concepts during the current international issues ?

It is well known in industry for them to be already behind and hard to communicate with. The previous leadership, as David B referred, is a good case study and working example of the pitfalls of buying growth, pushing the product into “off shoring” in order to boost profit through low cost labour at the expense of client service and poor quality output.

With Covid-19 and international spaces and travel closed I would have thought its a perfect management nightmare and storm for all “Australian Businesses” that are actually shop fronted ‘off shore’ services really operating for profit from in India, Vietnam or elsewhere.

I think the majority would agree that we should ensure to keep our professional service jobs in Australia for the future generations currently in school, give them some form of career stability to reach for … like we had and enjoy.

With all due respect I am a Public Practice accountant who meticulously tracks to the 15 May (and all other) lodgement date year in, year out and will only ever seek extensions for bona fide cases regardless of the environment. To see headline grabbing articles from a business that does not belong to a professional accounting body, is only known for SMSF administration, sends the bulk of their work offshore but then promotes themselves as well on track to make the 30 June deadline provides very little actual support to the local industry once this article is old news. It’s high time lodgement stats were published so all claims can be verified.

Good to see that SuperConcepts will meet lodgement deadlines this year. A big improvement by Lara & her team over the sluggish performance of the previous leadership team.

Even though it’s an extended deadline David.
