At a media briefing in Sydney today, SPAA chief executive Andrea Slattery announced the association’s new name will be The SMSF Association.
This rebrand will be effective immediately, Ms Slattery said.
”As part of our evolution we have decided to change our name to something simpler and more intuitive.”
”We have directly represented the professionals servicing the SMSF community and, indirectly, a majority of the more than one million trustees and members who are involved in SMSFs.
”Given our mission is to lead the SMSF sector in Australia, it is important to have a brand that instills confidence and trust and the place to seek professionals.”
More to come

Anything with Association in its name creates negatives from paying public in my view!!
Amazed that there was anything construed as wrong with public recognition of SPAA. Now will need bulk money to create public awareness of long winded new name!!!
I’m more interested in these oganisations creating credibility among consumers. SPAA meant nothing to my clients, despite it providing materials to promote to consumers.
Industry funds have formal advertising campaigns to consumers, isn’t it about time ‘The SMSF Association’, given it’s influence and growing strengths, gave it’s members support too? I know it seems self serving, but doesn’t it want to earn recognition via it’s members?
A lot of SMSF members/trustees do not like to pay the hefty fees to the professionals and use them reluctantly. This organisation represents the professionals, will it also represent the members’s interests now? Only then the name change will be credible. Let us see if they actively push for better services and lower fees from the professionals.
Now to be confused with the myriad of other organisations with ‘SMSF’ in the name.
