In a statement released on Wednesday, the association said the key themes of its popular workshop sessions for this year’s conference would be death benefit planning, ageing clients, the sole purpose test and SMSF auditing.

The death benefits planning workshop, titled “Dealing with death — better the devil you know”, would be available on all three days of the conference, while “Ageing clients, advice and ethics” would be available on Wednesday and Thursday, and the SMSF auditor workshop on Thursday only.

SMSF Association chief executive John Maroney said the workshops had become an integral part of the technical program at the conference.

“The feedback we have received from delegates in the past [has been] extremely positive about how this format facilitates their understanding of a complex issue,” Mr Maroney said.

“We also have secured seven experts in their respective fields to run this year’s workshops that can only enhance their educational value.”

He added that delegates who were interested in the workshop sessions should register quickly due to the limited amount of places available for the sessions.

The SMSFA said registrations for the conference sessions would open at 6.30am on Tuesday, 21 January.

The association’s national conference for 2020 would run from 19 to 21 February at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
