CA ANZ has now partnered with the University of Western Australia (UWA) in a move that will allow Master of Professional Accounting students to complete their degree in tandem with the CA qualification.

The partnership — the first of its kind in Australia — comes as CA ANZ looks to refresh its CA Program and attract new members through flexible study pathways.

CA ANZ first launched the pilot program across the ditch with Victoria University in New Zealand last year, with its first intake of students to commence from term 1 2020.

Should the pilot partnership prove successful, CA ANZ will aim to roll out the program with other universities across Australia.

UWA professor of accounting and associate dean of learning and teaching Professor Phil Hancock welcomed the partnership, noting that the program would give students with a non-accounting background a leg up before entering the workforce.

“The internationally recognised CA qualification will help expand their job opportunities significantly,” Professor Hancock said.

“This course is perfect for students who studied in a field other than accounting prior to commencing a master’s degree so they can still graduate fully qualified after two years at UWA.”

CA ANZ Group executive of education and learning Simon Hann said the partnership would help attract a broader range of talent from outside the traditional accounting pathways.

“Students who obtain a CA qualification will gain a significant head start in their careers,” Mr Hann said.

“The CA Program combines the rigour of education and the practical application of learned skills in the workplace.

“Forming part of our broader plan to refresh the CA Program, this new study pathway will attract a more diverse range of talent into the profession and help business professionals looking to kick-start their careers in accounting.”
