ATO to delay eSAT retirement
The ATO will delay the retirement of eSAT for SMSF auditors as it plans additional functionality updates for Online services for business.
SMSF auditors will continue to be able to use the electronic superannuation audit tool (eSAT), as the ATO has signalled it will not be retired at the same time in conjunction with the Business Portal.
“Since Online services for business went live, we have received positive feedback about the functionality and usability, such as how it makes it easy to lodge a large amount of audit complete advice (ACAs) at once through the new bulk ACA template,” the ATO said in its recent online update.
“We have also received feedback on some functions you would like to see improved which is why we are holding co-design sessions with auditors in early June. These sessions will allow us to work with you to make improvements that will make your job easier.
“If we have contacted you to participate in a co-design session, we highly recommend you take part, as it is your chance to let us know what you would like to see improved.”
While undertaking this work, the ATO confirmed that the electronic superannuation audit tool (eSAT) will continue to be available. It will not be retired at the same time as the Business Portal.
“You may find that eSAT is not compatible with newer operating systems. However, Online services for business will be available and is still our recommended option for auditors to lodge ACAs and auditor contravention reports (ACRs),” the ATO said.
“We will continue to keep you informed of any updates to Online services for business, and the improvements we’re making.”
The Tax Office had launched its new Online services public beta at the start of the year, with small business owners and SMSF auditors encouraged to provide their feedback to the ATO.
According to the ATO, the new service will offer a range of features, including making payment plans, retrieving copies of income tax returns, viewing ATO communication history and accessing the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House.
Online services for business will also allow owners to switch between ABNs with a single login, lodge activity statements and taxable payment annual reports, and view Single Touch Payroll reports.
